Cooler Communities Education and Grant Program

In 2021, the Town of Sherborn  received a "Cooler Communities'' grant through the Harold Grinspoon Foundation's Ener-G-save program. Ener-G-save works with MA towns, grassroots organizations, nonprofits, and schools to lower carbon pollution and help residents make smart energy choices.

The grant sponsors three unique curriculum projects at Sherborn's Pine Hill Elementary, the Dover Sherborn Middle and High Schools with the goal to strengthen students’ leadership on climate-related issues. It also seeks  to leverage the school community at large in taking a path toward lower emissions, clean energy, and sustainable land-use. To that end, a virtual "Cooler Sherborn'' community fair is planned for the end of May, 2021. At this event, visitors can learn from neighbors, subject matter experts, and practitioners concerning actions we can take to lower our carbon footprint. In addition, we can learn ways to manage our yards to be more in harmony with nature. With the help of a customized webtool, visitors can sign up for actions, individually or as a team, and keep a measure of their contribution in lowering Sherborn's residential carbon emissions. Sherborn Energy Coach Initiative

This is a volunteer, neighbor-to-neighbor initiative to help Sherborn’s homeowners cut their homes’ carbon footprint, utility bills, and the pollution emitted (which accounts for
42% of all town-wide emissions).

As unbiased volunteer advisors, knowledgeable coaches help homeowners to select and install the right systems for their particular home and budget. They assist homeowners with identifying opportunities, comparing contractor quotes, and identifying available subsidies, tax breaks and financing options.
